What you should know about Society for the Welfare of Autistic Children(SWAC)
`Society for the Welfare of Autistic Children’ (SWAC) was formed by a group of dedicated parents of children with autism in 2000 with the aim of educating, training and rehabilitating children, adolescents and adults with autism to develop and perform to their fullest potential, making them independent and active member of the society, enabling them to integrate and contribute to the mainstream of national development and establishing their rights as citizens of this country. SWAC is a pioneer non–profit, non–government, non-political and voluntary organization rendering services to individuals with autism and their families in order to improve the quality of their lives for near about seventeen years. SWAC operates a well equipped structured and methodical education and training centre. SWAC also provides diagnosis and assessment to children with autism, counseling to parents and package program to children coming from different parts of the country. SWAC is also playing a significant role to raise awareness on autism all over the country. The Students’ fees and personal donations of members, parents and other generous individuals, fund all activities of SWAC. It has received very meager financial support from the government and non-government organizations till date.

Aims and Objectives of SWAC: </b>
The
aim of SWAC is to develop excellent facilities for the special education,
training and rehabilitation of individuals with autism within a structured,
happy and caring environment allowing them to grow in confidence and
independence, to feel safe and secure and to achieve their maximum potential.
Create employment opportunities inside and outside SWAC enabling them to
participate and integrate in society.
The main objectives include:

Mass awareness campaign through newspaper, radio, TV and other media in
order to create better understanding
about autism among the public and professionals through out the country.
<ul><li>Organise
surveys all over the country to collect data about the number of individuals
with autism in Bangladesh.</li><li>Provide
diagnosis, assessment and clinical services to individuals with autism.</li></ul>
